Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a critical complication after liver surgery that negatively affects surgical outcomes of patients with the end-stage liver-related disease. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are responsible for the development of ischemia-reperfusion injury and eventually lead to hepatic dysfunction. Selenium-doped carbon quantum dots (Se-CQDs) with an excellent redox-responsive pro...

Chem; 2023, 9, 2006.
In contrast to other main group elements, group VI elements are rarely observed to form long linear polymer main chains. We reported the synthesis and characterizations of polytelluoxane, a polymer with an inorganic main chain that constitutes tellurium and oxygen, which may bridge the gap between inorganic oxides and macromolecules. Polytelluoxane has a flexible Te–O backbone and can be facilely synthesized and further p...

Intracellular Hyperbranched Polymerization for Circumventing Cancer Drug Resistance
Chengfei Liu, Banruo Xianyu, Yiheng Dai, Shuojiong Pan, Tianyu Li, and Huaping Xu*
ACS Nano; 2023, 17, 11905.
Polymerization inside living cells provides chemists with a multitude of possibilities to modulate cell activities. Considering the advantages of hyperbranched polymers, such as a large surface area for target sites and multilevel branched structures for resistance to the efflux effect, we reported a hyperbranched polymerization in living cells based on the oxidative polymerization of organotellurides and intracellular redox environment. The intracellular hyperbranched polymerizati...

Prog. Polym. Sci.; 2023, 141, 101678.
Significant progresses have been made in tellurium-containing polymers over the past decades. Just like other heteroatom-containing polymers, tellurium-containing polymers exhibit several unique properties and promising applications. However, unlike elements such as boron, silicon, sulfur and so on, tellurium in polymers remains a fresh perspective for many researchers. In this review, we shall illustrate the diversification of tellurium-...

Adv. Mater.; 2023, 23, 2211370.
As a specialized immune effector cell, natural killer (NK) cells play a very important role in immunotherapy, but tumor immunosuppression caused by abnormal expression of cancer cells seriously weakens its therapeutic effect and leads to exhaustion. Here, we developed a self-assembled selenium containing nanoparticles (NPs) composed of Cetuximab, C5SeSeC5 and inhibitor LY345899 to reverse NK cell exhaustion. The obtained NPs can target EGFR on the surface of cancer cells and locat...

Mechanochemistry of dynamic chalcogen-containing polymers: a minireview
Muqing Cao, Yizheng Tan and Huaping Xu
New Journal of Chemistry; 2023, 47, 5582.
In recent years, mechanochemistry of polymers, which means the reactivity of polymers under mechanical stimuli, has been widely studied and greatly developed. Among various kinds of mechano-responsive polymers, dynamic chalcogen-containing polymers have attracted more attention due to their sensitive responsiveness and precise biofunction. In this perspective, we provide an overview of mechanochemistry of dynamic chalcogen-containing polymers, including both fundamental mechanochemistry and applications. Particu...
